B.1980
Since the 1990s, Ricardo Morales-Hernández’s practice consists in drawing from personal, political and cosmic history, to represent and critique images of perceived paradisiacal conditions. Focusing on extemporal drawings, he employs analog, digital and biological media. His images often evoke musical notations and are reminiscent of the natural ecosystem of Puerto Rico. This engagement with the natural landscapes also frames the colonial history of the island. He maintains a strong interest in the historical relationships between primitive markings, neo-expressionism and the aesthetics of digital design. In the 2000 he starts vectorial image bank and NFT’s.
Morales-Hernández studied Theology at the Theology from Reformed Theological Seminary; Media Art Histories at Donau-Universität Krems, Krems, AT; and Social Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, San Juan, PR. He has been awarded grants from The Center for Photography at Woodstock, The Andy WarholFoundation, National Endowment for the Arts, vand Center for Image Science in Austria, among others.
Lives and works in San Juan, PR.
